A little about what makes us tick

You might expect us to use this page to convince you that we're the biggest, best, cheapest, most happening creative communications company in Sydney. We're not going to do that, though. Because we're not.

In fact, our business is probably a little like yours. World domination can wait: we simply concentrate on doing what we do in a unique and beautiful way. Like you, we love delighting our clients, and we do it by being a little different to the average agency.

A Sore Thumb
We're often told that Cognium stands out because we're unconventional - and not just because of the tricky made-up name. For a start, we're a compact crew of expert freelancers. That means that our copywriters, designers and programmers are available on-demand, project-by-project, which is much more economical than having a fleet of under-utilised staff.

Additionally, only a handful of us are new hatchlings from design schools. Most of us have a solid corporate background earned from spending years at international corporations in IT, Project Management, Advertising and Design departments. The result is a winning mix of 'whole brain' thinking: the analytical, business-focused, common sense of the left brain married to the artistic, free-flowing, big picture creativity of the right brain. It means we understand that everything we produce has to have tangible business value.

Our clunky name combines those two ideas, as well. It's borrowed from the collection of Latin root words based around "knowledge". You can see echoes of it in "recognition" and "cognitive". 'Cognium' conveys the related ideas of thinking with the desire to be recognised and remembered. It's left AND right brained, and sums us up nicely.

How can Cognium help your business to communicate?
Your business probably has many reasons to communicate with existing and prospective clients. You may talk to them directly using advertising and web sites or less directly with branding, brochures and articles.

Cognium provides expertise in:

· Thinking: Establishing a creative brief, tackling marketing strategy, R&D, etc.
· Visual Design: Logos, Ads, Layouts, Web Design, Illustrations, etc.
· Written Communication: Ads, Brochures, Press releases, SEO-friendly Web Content, etc.

If you're interested in all things technical, our designers use the entire Adobe CS Master Collection on our studio-based Macs. Our programmers code web sites entirely by hand using HTML, PHP and CSS to very high standards. And our copywriters use whatever Word Processor happens to be lying around at the time.

How We Save You Money
There are advantages to not being the biggest. Being lithe and nimble is one of them. Another is being able to charge you much, much less. We don't have endless cubicles of Project Managers and Account Executives, so you'll never find their fees on one of our invoices. We only have freelancers to pay for the work they do. That means a much cheaper project for you.

We're also careful to quote up-front. And the more detailed the creative brief, the more accurate the quote. Variations and changes to scope are discussed before work is done, and we often advise alternative approaches which avoid extra costs.

Quite frequently, we surprise our clients by charging less than our estimates, and we love doing it. We find that the repeat business, lunches and occasional bottles of wine make us feel even better about it, of course.
